Individual
counseling offers an opportunity for you to sit in a place of physical and
emotional support and safety, where you can gain a deeper understanding and
positive relationship with yourself. In this setting, many people are able to
find far more strength, creativity, and positive resources within themselves
than they ever thought possible.
Counseling has
been shown to be very effective in helping people with a wide range of concerns
including anxiety, depression, anger, sadness, detachment /
disconnection, or feelings of being stuck, overwhelmed or bewildered about what
to do next.
For most of us,
these issues are the result of patterns of thoughts, behavior and feelings that
we developed over many years. Unfortunately, those old ways of responding to
the world no longer work for us. In fact, they work against us. Discovering
and understanding those patterns and how they work opens the door for us to do
things differently if we choose.
Men’s
Issues
In our culture,
we men tend to be very poorly taught about how to be men– if we are taught at
all.
As a man, you
are probably facing challenges and carrying emotional and mental burdens that
are nothing like what your father or grandfathers experienced. It can seem
nearly impossible to be the man you want to be in the face of all the competing
forces that push you to compromise or betray your most basic principles, dreams
and desires.
You have
probably noticed, either in yourself or other men, that these burdens can show
up as strained relationships, anger outbursts, depression, anxiety, affairs,
work dissatisfaction, addictions and fundamental questions about life direction
and purpose.
One of the
obstacles that may keep you from asking for help is the mistaken notion that to
be a “real man” you must be able to handle your problems on your own.
Unfortunately, that kind of isolation actually blocks your ability to be
successful and makes it harder to find satisfaction with yourself, your
relationships and your career.
None of us were
ever intended to face our issues or challenges alone. To seek counsel and
support when you need it is a sure sign of wisdom, courage and strength. |
